Accra
A lot of this started with Accra. I grew up shaped by Ghana even when I wasn't there — through family, through music, through the way certain objects and images carried something across distance. When I started thinking about which artists to include on this site, Accra was never a question.
What I kept coming back to is how culture actually travels. Not just in museums or galleries, but through airlines, keepsakes, signs, archives — the everyday things people carry with them. Accra is one of the clearest places I know where you can see that happening in real time.
The people on this page made that visible for me. They're not just from Accra. In some way, they carry it with them — and now you get to carry a piece of it too.
