Los Angeles
I used to think of Los Angeles as a city about image production. What I understand now — partly because of the artists on this page — is that its most honest work turns all that visual abundance inward. Some of the most intimate art I've encountered came out of LA.
There's something about how artists here hold family archive and inheritance and the politics of being seen that connects directly to what I care about. Art as a way to carry someone with you. As evidence that connection outlasts distance.
The work here is quiet in the best way — specific enough to feel true, open enough to let you find yourself in it.
